Olmec/Tlatilco Dancing Figure

Olmec/Tlatilco Dancing Figure – from Mexico, dating to the Middle Preclassic period, ca. 1150–550 BC.
Balanced dramatically on one leg, the figure’s head is sharply thrown back while the shoulders twist abruptly to the right.
The right arm crosses the chest, and the left hand extends behind the hip in a dynamic dancer’s posture. The bearded head is lifted upward and displays characteristic Tlatilco features, with parted lips, elongated eyes, and a distinctive expression.
The figure wears a short loincloth and has a textured, stippled coiffure, with additional decorative details highlighted in red and ochre pigment.
