On February 23, 2022, my world changed forever. I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, Emilia—a moment every mother dreams of, a moment that should have been filled with joy, relief, and celebration. Instead, it became the beginning of the most terrifying chapter of our lives.

Emilia’s arrival was anything but ordinary. She became stuck in the birth canal, and when she finally entered the world… she wasn’t breathing. I still remember the deafening silence that filled the room. No cry. No movement. Just fear.

Doctors rushed her to the side of the room, working urgently to resuscitate her. I lay there helpless, unable to touch her, unable to comfort her—only able to pray she would survive. My newborn baby was fighting for her life before she even had the chance to feel my arms around her.

Minutes felt like hours. By the time they stabilized her, Emilia’s life was hanging by a thread. She was immediately transferred to intensive care. I followed her through those hospital corridors with shaking hands and a heart that felt like it was breaking apart.

Nothing could have prepared me for the words that came next.

Doctors told us Emilia had suffered:

• severe brain damage

• cerebral edema

• multiple heart defects

• and a list of complications that seemed to grow longer with each passing day

They weren’t sure she would survive.

She underwent life-saving surgery. She battled sepsis. She battled pneumonia. She battled complications that would break even the strongest adults. And through it all, she kept fighting.

I celebrated every inch of progress as if it were a mountain climbed. Emilia’s determination, even as an infant, became my strength. Watching her fight for her life taught me what true courage looks like.

Today, Emilia lives with:
