ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL 2

THE ANGEL LIVES! ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL 2 IS FINALLY REVIVING!
For years, fans of the visually stunning 2019 film ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL have demanded a sequel, making #AlitaSequel a constant trending topic. The great news is that the sequel is officially in development!
OFFICIAL STATUS & LATEST INTEL:
Official Status: Confirmed! Producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez have publicly stated that the sequel is happening.
Sequel Name: The project is currently referred to as ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL 2 (or potentially ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL: AVATAR X if Cameron links it to his other universe, though this is speculative).
Development Progress: In late 2024, Robert Rodriguez confirmed that the script for the sequel is being written and that he and Cameron are actively working on it.

Casting: Star Rosa Salazar (who provided the motion capture and voice for Alita) is expected to return.
Why the Long Delay?
The sequel was held up largely due to the sheer volume of work on James Cameron’s Avatar sequels. Cameron needed to finish Avatar 3 before he could fully dedicate his time and resources to the next Alita film. With Avatar 3 now deep in post-production, Cameron is able to turn his focus back to the Alita project.
What the Sequel Will Cover:
The first film ended on a massive cliffhanger, with Alita finally pointing her sword toward Zalem, the floating city that controls the world below, and facing the shadowy puppet master, Nova (played by Edward Norton in a cameo).
The Mission: The sequel is set to focus on Alita’s ascent to Zalem to take down Nova and gain true freedom for the people of Iron City.
Motorball and Destiny: Expect a massive Motorball arc, as the film needs to follow up on the Motorball champion status Alita earned at the end of the first film.
While there is no official release date yet (it depends on when the script is finalized and production can begin, likely aiming for 2027 or 2028), the years of waiting are finally paying off!
Are you ready to see Alita finally take on Nova and Zalem?
