THE WOMAN KING 2

THE LEGACY LIVES ON! THE WOMAN KING 2 IS THE POWERFUL CONTINUATION THE AGIOJE DESERVE!
The demand for a follow-up to the groundbreaking 2022 historical epic has been overwhelming, and while THE WOMAN KING 2 isn’t officially confirmed by the studio (as of late 2025!), the Agojie are absolutely ready for their return! This review is based on the highly anticipated concept and the compelling historical arc they would follow.
The sequel is primed to focus on the next great threat to Dahomey: the looming shadow of European colonialism and the subsequent Franco-Dahomean Wars of the late 19th century. This would dramatically raise the stakes, forcing General Nanisca (Viola Davis) and King Ghezo (John Boyega) to lead their kingdom and the Agojie into a battle they cannot win with sheer determination alone—a fight against rifles, cannons, and a modern, massive foreign army.
A key element rumored for the sequel, one even pitched by John Boyega himself, is a deeper, more morally complex dive into the historical realities of Dahomey. This would involve confronting King Ghezo’s role in the slave trade more directly, positioning the Agojie’s final stand not just as a fight for freedom, but as a moment of historical reckoning and redemption. This darker, more intricate narrative would be a bold and powerful choice for the franchise.
The relationship between Nanisca and her apprentice Nawi (Thuso Mbedu) would be central, showing Nawi fully embracing her leadership role and struggling with the immense burden of command against impossible odds. The action choreography, which was the beating heart of the first film, would be even more intense—a visceral, tragic ballet of spears, swords, and sheer sisu against the relentless forces of invasion.
Even if Viola Davis (who joked about Nanisca dying early due to the strenuous training) were to take a smaller role, the sequel would cement the enduring power and sacrifice of the Agojie. It promises to be a deeply moving, emotionally resonant chapter that honors the true warrior spirit. A must-see if it hits theaters!
