GRUDGE MATCH 2: THEY’RE BACK, AND THEY’RE STILL TOO OLD FOR THIS!
If you loved the absurd premise of seeing aging legends Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro trade geriatric blows in the original Grudge Match, then GRUDGE MATCH 2 is the hilarious, slightly cynical, and surprisingly heartwarming sequel you’ve been waiting for! The film proves that even decades after their prime, Razor and Kid still have plenty of comedic punch left.
The premise this time is even more ridiculous: after their last bout was declared a draw (or maybe they both just needed a nap), the two old rivals, Henry “Razor” Sharp and Billy “The Kid” McDonnen, are forced back into the spotlight—not for a title, but for a cringe-worthy corporate endorsement deal that requires them to act like best friends. Naturally, the simmering resentment boils over, leading to a hilarious (and often painful-looking) series of public spats, slapstick training montages, and eventually, one last, inevitable, and completely unnecessary rematch.
Stallone and De Niro are clearly having a blast, leaning into their self-aware parody of their past boxing glory (Rocky and Raging Bull). The best moments aren’t in the ring, but in their sharp-witted banter about technology, diet, and their failing bodies. The film smartly uses supporting characters—perhaps a returning Kevin Hart or a new, cynical young promoter—to provide commentary on the media circus surrounding these aging athletes.
While the final fight is less about genuine boxing and more about two old men collapsing onto each other dramatically, the emotional payoff is there. Grudge Match 2 is a celebration of second chances, long-held grudges, and the enduring power of friendship (or frenemy-ship). It’s a silly, fun, and nostalgic knockout!
