The Woman King (2022)

THE AGOJIE RETURN… AND THE LEGEND GROWS EVEN STRONGER!
The first The Woman King (2022) was a masterpiece — Viola Davis as General Nanisca leading the fierce all-female Agojie warriors of Dahomey in breathtaking battles, emotional depth, and pure Black female power that lit up screens worldwide. It grossed nearly $100M, earned 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and left fans screaming for more. Now, in 2025/2026, the internet is on FIRE with fan-made trailers, concept art, and viral posts imagining THE WOMAN KING 2 — and it feels so real, so necessary, we’re treating it like the sequel we deserve!
In this powerful next chapter, General Nanisca (Viola Davis, still the fiercest queen on screen) faces her greatest test yet: years after victory, Dahomey stands on the edge of colonization’s shadow. Tradition clashes with new threats — rival factions, foreign powers hungry for control, and the weight of legacy. Nanisca must train a new generation of Agojie, including a mysterious young recruit whose past could save or doom the kingdom.
Thuso Mbedu returns as Nawi, growing into a leader, Lashana Lynch as the unbreakable Izogie, and whispers of John Boyega or fresh stars joining the fray. The battles? Even bigger — spear formations charging through golden fields, night raids on enemy camps, palace intrigues exploding into sword clashes, and a massive final war march under stormy skies that’ll have you on your feet!

Director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s vision (she’s open to ideas, and fans are pushing hard) keeps the heart: sisterhood tested, resilience forged in fire, and that stirring message of women as warriors of destiny, not just the battlefield. Viola Davis has said she’s “totally open” to returning (though she jokes Nanisca might not last long — but come on, legends don’t die easy!). The emotional stakes hit deeper — bonds unbreakable, freedom defended, legacy earned through blood and courage.
Those fan trailers? They give full-body chills — sweeping West African vistas, pounding drums, slow-mo spear throws, and Viola roaring commands that echo through history. If this ever gets the green light (and the buzz says it could), it’ll be one of the most inspiring, intense films ever. Representation that slays, action that empowers, and a story that reminds us: women have always been the true kings.
Verdict:
10/10 (in our hearts & fan dreams) — The sequel the world needs. Power, heart, and unapologetic Black excellence.
