Hollywood star Halle Berry has confirmed she has accepted a marriage proposal from musician Van Hunt, saying she still believes in lasting love despite three previous marriages ending in divorce.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 5, Berry set the record straight about reports surrounding the engagement. “I never said no. We just haven’t set a wedding date,” she explained, before adding firmly: “Of course I said yes. He gave me a ring.”

Earlier, in a June 2025 interview on Today, Van Hunt revealed that he had already proposed but that the answer was “still kind of hanging in the air.” The 55-year-old musician joked at the time: “Maybe you all can help me convince her.”

Berry, who joined him during that interview, shared why she hadn’t rushed into marriage again. “I’ve been married three times and Van only once,” she said. “So we don’t feel the need to get married to prove our love in any way. But I do think we’ll get married—simply because, out of all the men I’ve married, he’s the one I should have married.”

The couple met through Berry’s musician brother during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. They stayed in touch via texts and phone calls for months before finally going on their first date. Since then, they have built a strong relationship while keeping their private life largely out of the spotlight.

Looking back on her romantic journey, Berry admitted she faced intense public scrutiny after her divorces. “After my third divorce, I kept hearing questions like, ‘What’s wrong with her?’ or ‘She can’t keep a man,’” the actress recalled. She said she withdrew from the media for a long time to avoid being labeled as “unlucky in love.”

“I always asked myself, why should I hold on to a man if he isn’t the right one?” Berry said, describing her current relationship as the healthiest she has ever had.

If the couple tie the knot, it will be Berry’s fourth marriage. She was previously married to former baseball player David Justice (1993–1997), singer Eric Benét (2001–2005), and actor Olivier Martinez (2013–2016). She shares a 12-year-old son, Maceo, with Martinez, and an almost-18-year-old daughter, Nahla, with model Gabriel Aubry from a five-year relationship. Van Hunt also has an adult son, Drake, from a previous relationship.
