Kim Kardashian Explains Why Photos With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Were Deleted

Kim Kardashian has addressed why she and her mother, Kris Jenner, deleted photos featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Instagram last November.
Fans began questioning the move after images of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Kris Jenner’s lavish 70th birthday party in Los Angeles disappeared from social media, despite the couple being photographed happily mingling earlier that evening.

Speaking on her sister Khloé Kardashian’s podcast, Khloé In Wonder Land, on January 28, Kim described the situation as “completely harmless,” though she admitted it looked “a bit strange” in hindsight. She noted that Kris Jenner and Meghan Markle have been close friends for many years.
Kim explained that she and her mother reviewed photos from the birthday celebration before posting them and were initially told by the Sussexes that sharing the images was “totally fine.” However, after the photos went live, it became clear that the party coincided with Remembrance Day in the UK.
“Once they realized the date, they didn’t want to be seen as partying on Remembrance Day,” Kim said. “So we took the photos down out of respect.” She added that, in her view, the incident was later blown out of proportion.

According to Kim, while Harry and Meghan’s attendance at the Baby2Baby Gala earlier that day may not have raised eyebrows, images of dancing and partying on a day of remembrance could easily be misinterpreted. The star of The Kardashians suggested that a lighter, more humorous response might have prevented the backlash.
“I don’t like it when something so minor turns into unnecessary drama,” she said.
Kim also joked that the family could have leaned into the controversy for a playful promotion of her shapewear brand Skims. “I said we should’ve done a whole Skims campaign—posted photos, then deleted them 30 minutes later and said, ‘Sorry, I didn’t have permission to post those for the campaign,’” she laughed.

Previously, on November 8, 2025, Prince Harry (41) and Meghan Markle (44) drew attention when they attended Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday, held at a $175 million Beverly Hills mansion owned by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. The couple arrived hand in hand and socialized with A-list guests including Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Bill Gates, Paris Hilton, Tyler Perry, Ciara, and Mark Zuckerberg.
After the party, Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner posted several group photos that included Harry and Meghan, only to quietly remove them later—fueling speculation. A source told Page Six that royal insiders felt the Sussexes’ attendance appeared “inappropriate,” suggesting Harry was drifting further from the Royal Family. Another source claimed Harry and Meghan themselves asked for the photos to be removed to avoid escalating tensions as they attempt to mend family relationships.
Meanwhile, an additional insider said the Kardashian-Jenner family was unhappy that attention surrounding Kris Jenner’s birthday had been overshadowed by controversy involving the Sussexes. The situation was even described as a possible “last straw” leading to the resignation of Meredith Maines, communications director of Archewell, the foundation founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
