Angelina Jolie Steps Away From Hollywood

Angelina Jolie is preparing to leave Los Angeles, choosing to step away from Hollywood and begin a new chapter after years of high-profile legal disputes with her ex-husband. She is widely expected to live long-term outside the United States.
According to Page Six, the 50-year-old actress and humanitarian has listed her Los Angeles estate for around $25 million. Jolie purchased the property in 2016, shortly after separating from Brad Pitt. Sources told People that she has quietly been hosting private viewings and moving forward with the sale process.

Page Six also reports that starting in 2026, Jolie plans to divide her time between New York City, where she is developing her fashion brand Atelier Jolie, and Europe to maintain greater privacy. She is also said to be considering long-term residence in Cambodia, where she holds citizenship and has long-standing personal ties.
Actor and producer Jae Benjamin, who has known Jolie since 2005, believes leaving Los Angeles will help her regain balance after years of intense media scrutiny and personal challenges. In his view, Jolie wants to focus on work that offers deeper meaning and aligns with her creative and humanitarian values.

Jolie’s plans come as she finalized her divorce settlement with Brad Pitt in late December 2024, closing an eight-year separation marked by prolonged legal battles. She has previously said she remained in Los Angeles primarily because her children were under 18. Her youngest twins, Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, are set to turn 18 in July.
In earlier interviews, Jolie explained that living in Los Angeles was largely about co-parenting logistics. Since the split, she has been the primary caregiver to her six children, several of whom have chosen to drop “Pitt” from their surnames.
Despite changes in her personal life, Jolie continues her artistic and humanitarian work. She has recently appeared at major international film events, including the Cannes Film Festival, and remains active in humanitarian missions. Last weekend, she visited the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza to meet civilians affected by the conflict, according to Associated Press.
Jolie previously served as a Special Envoy for the UNHCR and has often described herself as a “global citizen,” saying she does not see her life as confined to Hollywood.
In interviews with Harper’s Bazaar and The Wall Street Journal, Jolie said she hopes to spend more time living abroad to gain privacy and focus on long-term projects, including directing ambitions she has been developing.
“I have some larger directing projects that will take more time,” she said in 2024. “I’m especially interested in an epic inspired by the life of photographer Don McCullin. I want to follow his path and his story. At the same time, I still want to continue acting, including taking on villain roles.”
