Kristen Stewart Is Open to Reviving Twilight with a Remake

Kristen Stewart, who rose to global fame through the blockbuster Twilight franchise, has revealed that she would be willing to return to the Twilight universe—this time as a director—if a remake were backed by sufficient resources and genuine creative support.
The actress, who played Bella Swan opposite Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, made it clear that she is not closing the door on revisiting the beloved saga.

The Future of a Twilight Remake
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stewart said she would commit to directing a Twilight remake if the opportunity arose, according to E! News on January 6. For her, the key conditions would be a substantial budget and strong backing from the production team.
“Imagine if we had a real budget, with so much love and support behind it,” Stewart said. “I would love to read the script again and reinterpret the story.” She added decisively: “Yes, I would do the remake. I would do it really well. I’m committed.”
Despite her openness to directing, Stewart emphasized that she would not want to alter the spirit that defined the original series. Now 35, she reflected that each director who worked on Twilight brought a distinct personal vision that captured the cultural moment of its release.

“I love what the directors did with those films,” she explained. “They were very individual, a little strange, and completely present in the moment—before anyone could have imagined how massive it would all become.”
Behind-the-Scenes Reflections
Interest in Twilight has also been reignited by behind-the-scenes stories from its original creators. Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first film released in 2008, recently spoke about her experience following the movie’s explosive success. In an interview with The Guardian on July 9, 2025, Hardwicke recalled receiving only a small cupcake as congratulations—adding that, had she been a male director, she might have been rewarded with a major contract or far greater perks.

The first Twilight film, adapted from the novel by Stephenie Meyer, went on to gross $407 million worldwide, according to Forbes, cementing its place as one of the most memorable cinematic phenomena of its era.
Stephenie Meyer: The Story Isn’t Truly Over
Stephenie Meyer herself has hinted that the Twilight story may not be entirely finished. In an appearance on Good Morning America in September 2025, the author revealed that she has outlined additional stories centered on the characters, though she is unsure whether they will ever be published.

She noted that fans already know the ultimate fate of Bella, Edward, and Jacob, saying: “Bella and Edward’s story ended with Breaking Dawn, but in my mind, their lives continue.”
Together, the recent comments from Kristen Stewart and Stephenie Meyer have reignited speculation about a possible Twilight revival—prompting broader conversations about how iconic franchises might be reimagined for contemporary audiences while honoring their original legacy.
