Gisele Bündchen’s Family Reportedly Opposes Her Marriage to ‘Penniless’ New Husband

The family of Gisele Bündchen is said to have strongly objected to her decision to marry jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, who is also the father of her nearly one-year-old son.

According to Page Six, relatives of the Brazilian supermodel believe she did not take sufficient steps to protect her personal interests before entering the marriage.

Financial imbalance raises concerns
A source told Page Six that Gisele’s family openly warned her that marrying a man with far fewer financial resources—while she herself is worth hundreds of millions of dollars—could pose significant risks. Although Joaquim Valente is well known within martial arts circles, runs his own academy in Miami, and counts several high-profile clients among his students, his wealth and public profile are still considered modest compared to Gisele’s.

Gisele Bündchen has long been recognized as one of the highest-paid models in the world, with an estimated net worth of around USD 400 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. For that reason, her family reportedly advised her to live with Valente without formalizing the relationship through marriage.

However, facing pressure from Valente and guided by her own traditional values, Gisele reportedly felt that marriage was the right step, especially after the couple welcomed a child together.

Private wedding and prenuptial concerns
The couple welcomed their son in February 2025 and quietly held a private wedding ceremony in November of the same year, according to Page Six. A source close to the pair said Valente was very happy to finally make their relationship official after becoming parents.

Insiders claim the couple did sign a prenuptial agreement, but it reportedly contains several open-ended clauses. This means that in the event of a divorce, Valente could still be entitled to a portion of Gisele’s assets—an arrangement her family allegedly believes is not strict enough to fully protect her financial interests.

A record-breaking career and close family ties
Gisele Bündchen’s career is marked by numerous milestones. In 2000, she signed what was then the most lucrative modeling contract in history with Victoria’s Secret, worth USD 25 million over five years. Beyond the runway, she has served as a global ambassador for major brands including Chanel, Pantene, Under Armour, Apple, and IWC, while also holding equity stakes in fashion and footwear businesses.

She is known to be deeply close to her family, including her father Valdir and her five sisters. In an interview with People in May 2023, Gisele said family is the most important thing in her life, despite occasional disagreements among siblings. Her mother, Vânia, passed away in January 2024 at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer.

Past marriage
Before marrying Joaquim Valente, Gisele Bündchen was married to NFL legend Tom Brady. The couple divorced in 2022 and share two children together: Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13.
