Sophie Trudeau Opens Up About Staying Calm After Justin Trudeau Began Dating Katy Perry

Sophie Trudeau has shared how she maintains her composure after her ex-husband, Justin Trudeau, began dating pop star Katy Perry. She admitted the situation stirred up many intense emotions, but said she chose calm as a way to protect herself and her children.

In a podcast episode released on November 14, Sophie spoke about navigating public pressure and scrutiny following her divorce from Justin Trudeau in August 2023—especially amid news of his new relationship. When host Arlene Dickinson asked how she managed to “stay calm,” Sophie replied that while everyone has emotions, what truly matters is how one responds to them.

She explained that she has learned to let emotions surface, then take a step back before reacting. “I allow myself to feel sadness, disappointment, and anger,” she said. “But how I respond afterward is my choice.” Acting purely on emotion, she added, can leave people exhausted, stressed, and more judgmental.

Discussing life after divorce, Sophie emphasized that she and Justin remain closely connected as co-parents to their three children—Xavier, 18; Ella-Grace, 16; and Hadrien, 11. “I’m not a single mother,” she said. “Justin and I are constantly in touch—calling, texting, coordinating—to create consistency for our kids. We have separate lives, but we still share one family.”

She also reflected on the challenges of living in the public eye, noting that fame brings “many stressors.” To protect her well-being, Sophie said she has learned to “listen to the music, not the noise”—focusing on what truly matters and tuning out unnecessary public chatter.
