‘Wolverine’ Hugh Jackman Hints at Possible Return in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

Hugh Jackman has once again sent the superhero fandom into a frenzy after appearing on The Graham Norton Show, where he suggested he might not be done with Logan – Wolverine just yet. The actor admitted he would “never say never” about reprising the iconic role.

The comment drew widespread attention because Jackman had repeatedly insisted that Logan – Wolverine was firmly behind him following Logan**, the 2017 film that gave the character a powerful and tragic farewell.

That promise, however, was broken when Jackman surprised fans by returning with his adamantium claws in Deadpool & Wolverine**. The film became a massive hit, widely regarded as one of Marvel’s most exciting superhero comebacks in years, and reportedly grossed around $1.3 billion worldwide—a much-needed success for the studio amid declining enthusiasm for the genre.

Could Wolverine Appear in Avengers: Doomsday?
Speaking candidly on The Graham Norton Show, Jackman reflected on how certain he once was that his Wolverine journey had ended:

“Every time I went on a talk show, I said, ‘No, I’m not coming back.’ Then I made another film, it became a huge hit, and I started questioning myself. Should I do more? Maybe. I won’t say ‘never’ again—because I genuinely thought I was done… until I changed my mind.”
According to Jackman, the turning point was Deadpool. While promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, he revealed that watching the first Deadpool**—starring Ryan Reynolds—made him almost instantly want to return. The irreverent, comic-accurate take on Deadpool reignited his excitement, especially given the long-standing dynamic between Wolverine and Deadpool in Marvel comics.

“I knew fans had always wanted Logan and Deadpool together,” Jackman said. “After watching Deadpool, I called Ryan immediately and said, ‘Let’s do it.’ I hadn’t even told my agent yet.”
The Wolverine–Deadpool pairing is considered one of Marvel’s most iconic duos, with their clashing personalities creating a dynamic that fans have loved for decades.

Marvel’s Hesitation—and the Multiverse Solution
Not everyone at Marvel was initially supportive of Wolverine’s return. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, previously advised Jackman against revisiting the role.

“I told Hugh, ‘You had the greatest ending in superhero movie history with Logan. Don’t undo that,’” Feige said in an interview with Empire.
Marvel ultimately solved the dilemma through its most powerful narrative tool: the multiverse. By introducing an alternate-universe version of Wolverine, the studio allowed Jackman to return without undermining the emotional legacy of Logan, while simultaneously opening countless possibilities for future stories.

Will Wolverine Join the Next Avengers Films?
The biggest question now is whether Jackman’s Wolverine will appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday** and Avengers: Secret Wars**. Official details remain tightly under wraps, but fan speculation is growing—especially after several X-Men veterans, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and James Marsden, confirmed their involvement in Doomsday.

Given Wolverine’s more than 20-year legacy and his status as one of cinema’s most beloved superheroes, even a single additional appearance by Hugh Jackman would be a monumental gift to fans worldwide.
