MIAMI — An American Airlines aircraft arriving from Colombia landed safely at Miami International Airport with apparent bullet holes in its fuselage, prompting a federal investigation, officials said.
The jet had departed from Colombia and was completing a routine commercial flight to Miami when the damage was discovered after landing. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

Damage Discovered Post-Flight
According to airline officials, the aircraft taxied to the gate without incident. It was during a post-flight inspection that maintenance personnel identified what appeared to be multiple bullet impacts on the exterior of the plane.
Authorities have not yet confirmed when or where the aircraft may have been struck. Investigators are examining whether the damage occurred while the plane was on the ground in Colombia, during takeoff, or while airborne.
The Federal Aviation Administration and local law enforcement are coordinating with Colombian authorities as part of the probe.
Passenger Safety
American Airlines said in a statement that the safety of customers and crew remains its top priority and that the aircraft has been removed from service for a thorough inspection.
Aviation experts note that commercial aircraft are designed with multiple layers of structural redundancy, and small-caliber impacts do not necessarily compromise cabin safety. However, any suspected gunfire involving a commercial airliner is treated as a serious security matter.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials have not indicated whether the damage is linked to criminal activity near the departure airport or a random stray bullet. Colombian authorities have not publicly commented on the incident.
The aircraft will remain grounded until investigators determine the source of the damage and confirm it is safe to return to service.
