Former Child Star Found Living on the Streets

Tylor Chase, a former child actor best known for his role in Nickelodeon’s hit children’s series Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, has been found living homeless on the streets of California.

According to TMZ, fans recently discovered Chase’s situation and shared videos on social media. A clip posted on X on December 21 quickly went viral, surpassing 10 million views. In the video, the 36-year-old former actor appears disheveled and dirty but remains cheerful, chatting openly with the person filming and confirming that he once played Martin Qwerly on the popular Nickelodeon show.

Ryan Railsback, a spokesperson for the Riverside Police Department, said local officers have regular contact with Chase—on average at least once a week—though it remains unclear when he first became homeless. Railsback emphasized that Chase is not wanted for any crimes and has always been polite and cooperative with law enforcement. Authorities have repeatedly offered him assistance, including temporary housing and mental health services, but he has declined the support.

Chase’s former co-stars from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide expressed heartbreak over his circumstances and said they are trying to find ways to help. Devon Werkheiser, who played Ned Bigby, recalled Chase as a sensitive, gentle, and kind child. The two have not seen each other for nearly 20 years since the show ended. Werkheiser said he hopes people with the right resources and understanding will step in to help Chase receive treatment and regain stability in his life.

On December 23, Daily Mail reported that another former castmate, Daniel Curtis Lee—who portrayed Simon Nelson-Cook—had stepped in to help, arranging for Chase to stay temporarily at a hotel. In a widely shared video, the two former child stars share an emotional reunion, embracing as Lee helps Chase secure a clean, warm place to stay during the Christmas season.

Writing on Instagram, Lee said he had made significant efforts to track down his former co-star and offer whatever help he could. During their meeting, Lee helped Chase reconnect with his father over the phone, an interaction believed to have greatly improved his emotional state. “Love is the only thing we can really give someone in moments like this, and I’m grateful he was able to reconnect with his dad,” Lee wrote.

Lee also revealed that he spoke with Chase’s mother, who expressed concern that giving her son cash directly could be dangerous. Respecting her wishes, Lee suggested that setting up a trust fund tied to conditions such as completing rehabilitation or treatment programs could be a constructive next step. “I truly believe we can help Tylor get back on his feet, especially during the holiday season,” he said.

Born in 1989, Tylor Chase is an American actor who was a familiar face on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s. He gained recognition for his role as Martin Qwerly, an eccentric, shy yet humorous student who appeared in 33 episodes of Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide between 2004 and 2007, contributing significantly to the show’s success.

Beyond the series, Chase appeared in smaller roles and guest performances, including the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, the short film Confessions of a Late Bloomer (2005), and as the younger version of Adam in the independent film Good Time Max (2007). He also provided voice acting and motion capture for the video game L.A. Noire.

After Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide concluded, Chase gradually withdrew from the entertainment industry and did not pursue acting professionally. From the mid-2010s onward, he turned to writing and performing poetry and spoke publicly about his mental health struggles, including living with bipolar disorder.
