When Will Avatar 4 and 5 Be Released?
The next two installments in the Avatar universe are scheduled to hit theaters in late 2029 and 2031, with director James Cameron also revealing that Asian superstar Michelle Yeoh will join the franchise.
According to IGN, Disney has officially set the release dates for Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. By the time the fifth film premieres, Cameron will be nearing his 80th birthday.

Speaking about the production of the two sequels, Cameron said he is looking for ways to reduce costs. As planned, Avatar 4 and 5 will be filmed back-to-back, similar to how the second and third installments were produced, in order to save money. He also confirmed that Michelle Yeoh will appear in both upcoming films, portraying Paktu’eylat, a Na’vi character.

“If we move forward with part four, then we’ll do parts four and five together—just like we did with parts two and three,” Cameron explained. “They will be another major story arc, and Michelle Yeoh will be part of both films.”
Previously, Cameron admitted he was concerned about the box office prospects of Avatar 3. He noted that audiences often tend to underestimate sequels, even when they serve as the completion of a larger narrative arc. He also pointed out that post-pandemic viewing habits have reduced ticket sales to roughly 75% of pre-2019 levels.

When asked about the production budget for Avatar: Fire and Ash, Cameron declined to give a specific figure, saying only that the cost was enormous—and that the film would need to earn a substantial amount at the box office to turn a profit.
