Iranian media confirm the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

Iran’s Tasnim news agency and the semi-official Fars News on March 1 confirmed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has died. According to Fars, Khamenei passed away at his office on February 28 while he was “carrying out his assigned duties.”
Earlier, Iranian media reported that the daughter and grandchild of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei were killed in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.

On February 28, U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. administration believed reports claiming Ali Khamenei was killed in airstrikes on Iran were “an accurate account.”

The same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video message to the Israeli public that there were growing signs indicating Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was “no longer alive.”
Fars also reported that the government of Iran has declared 40 days of national mourning following Khamenei’s killing and announced a seven-day nationwide public holiday.

Military operations continue at an intense pace. The Israel Defense Forces said they carried out a new round of airstrikes on Iranian territory on March 1.
