Iranian media: Several relatives of Supreme Leader Khamenei killed

Iranian state media reported that the daughter, grandchild, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, were killed in airstrikes carried out by Israel and the United States. According to state media reports on March 1, Khamenei’s daughter and grandchild were killed in coordinated U.S.–Israeli airstrikes.

The Fars News agency also confirmed earlier information that the 86-year-old cleric’s son-in-law and daughter-in-law were killed in the attacks.

However, there has been no official confirmation regarding Khamenei’s own condition. U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu both claimed that Khamenei had died. Writing on Truth Social, President Trump said Iran’s Supreme Leader was killed in joint U.S.–Israeli strikes, calling it the “greatest opportunity” for the Iranian people to take control of their country.

“Khamenei, one of the most dangerous figures in history, is dead,” Trump wrote, describing the development as “justice for the Iranian people,” as well as for Americans and others whom he said were harmed under Khamenei’s leadership.

Earlier, Prime Minister Netanyahu publicly stated that there were “growing signs that Khamenei is no longer alive.” Meanwhile, an unnamed senior Israeli official told Reuters that Khamenei’s body had been found following the U.S.–Israeli attack.

Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Mehr News denied this information, saying the Supreme Leader remained “steadfast and firmly in command of the battlefield.”

Subsequently, a post appeared on Khamenei’s account on X, seemingly intended to show that he was still alive. “In the name of exalted Haider (Ali), peace be upon him,” the post read.

According to U.S. and Israeli officials, the attacks targeted strategic military infrastructure and reportedly struck multiple locations in and around Tehran. Iranian media said multiple loud explosions were heard across the capital and emergency forces were deployed. Reported casualty figures could not be independently verified.

Iran later retaliated with missile attacks on several U.S. military bases across the Middle East.
