Responding to the emergency was Detective Sgt. Jeff Sheaman of the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office. Amid chaotic conditions, Sheaman helped rescue David and his family, bringing them safely back to shore.
At one point during the ordeal, young David had become unconscious due to the cold. Hypothermia was setting in. In those critical moments, Sheaman held the toddler close, using his own body heat to help stabilize him and protect him from further exposure until they reached safety.
