Iran war: A satellite damage assessment on US military bases 🛰️

High-resolution satellite imagery released by Planet Labs and analyzed by CNN, The New York Times and Reuters reveals extensive damage to at least nine U.S. military installations across Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE following Iranian missile and drone strikes in the opening phase of Operation True Promise 4. Key sites such as the U.S. Navy Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama show destroyed communications terminals, cratered radar arrays and damaged aircraft shelters.

U.S. Central Command has acknowledged limited infrastructure damage but insists core combat capabilities remain intact thanks to rapid repairs and dispersal of assets. Iranian state media hailed the strikes as a “precise and devastating” retaliation.

Independent analysts estimate repair costs in the billions of dollars, while the attacks have temporarily disrupted U.S. air operations and coordination across the Gulf. The imagery also highlights Iran’s improved precision-strike capability despite weeks of heavy Israeli and American bombing of its missile production sites. Oil prices surged more than 12% in global markets amid fears of further escalation and potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
