At first, people only heard barking coming from somewhere beneath the street.
The sound was weak and broken, like a desperate cry for help.

After searching for a while, they discovered a small dog trapped inside a storm drain.
The space was far too narrow, pitch dark, and filled with mud and debris.
He could not turn around. He could not move forward. He could not escape on his own.

Every time he tried to move, the dog whimpered in pain and fear.
His eyes were filled with panic.
No one knew how long he had been trapped down there, only that he was already exhausted.

People quickly began prying open the drain cover and calling for help.
One person lay flat on the road, shining a flashlight into the darkness.
Another used bare hands to clear away mud and dirt.
Everyone worked fast, لأن they all understood he could not hold on much longer.

After many tense minutes, the dog was finally pulled free.
His whole body was filthy, his breathing uneven, his legs still trembling from fear.
But once he was placed safely on the ground and felt the open air again, it was as if he could hardly believe he had made it out alive.

From the suffocating darkness beneath the drain,
he returned to the light, to life, and to the hope of being loved again.
