20-Week Scan Shocked Parents… Baby Had Multiple Heart Holes & Narrow Aorta

The routine 20-week scan was supposed to be a happy milestone. Instead, the sonographer noticed the baby’s heart chambers were difficult to see clearly and suspected something abnormal. Harrison’s parents were left waiting anxiously while specialists reviewed the images. The diagnosis that followed was overwhelming: possible coarctation of the aorta, an atrial septal defect, two ventricular septal defects, and potential aortic stenosis.

Further fetal cardiology scans and an amniocentesis to rule out genetic conditions added weeks of dread and emotional torment. When the genetics results finally came back clear, the family breathed a sigh of relief. Monthly scans continued right up to induction in November, when Harrison arrived safely into the world.

“Those long weeks of fear and waiting weren’t too much, mama — they prepared you to be the strongest advocate for your boy. Every scan and tear built your courage. You didn’t just face scary possibilities… you became the fierce mama ready to fight for her heart warrior.”
