The Last Sound 🦏

There may come a day when the wild grows quiet.

Not the peaceful silence of dawn,
not the calm between distant calls—
but a deeper, heavier stillness.

No footsteps moving through the grass.
No wings cutting across the sky.
No echoes of life carrying through the forest.

Just absence.

Places that were once full of movement and sound
reduced to empty space.

This is not a distant idea.
Across the world, habitats are shrinking,
species are disappearing,
and ecosystems are being pushed beyond their limits.

What disappears is not only the animals themselves,
but the balance they helped sustain.

The wild does not vanish all at once.

It fades.

Quietly. Gradually.
Until one day, the sounds we once took for granted
are no longer there.

And the most unsettling part may not be the silence itself—

but the memory of what used to fill it.

Because we will remember the footsteps,
the calls,
the life that once thrived in those places.

And we will know that it didn’t disappear on its own.

It will be gone because of what we allowed to happen.

The last sound of the wild may not be heard by the animals.

It may be heard by us. 🌿🐾
