Coraline – Live Action (2026) | Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher

The trailer opens with a sweeping shot of a dark, mist-covered forest in the early hours of the morning. The sound of whispering winds and the eerie call of distant birds fills the air. The camera cuts through the trees, slowly revealing the shabby, isolated house where Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) lives with her parents. The sky is overcast, and everything feels a little too quiet.

Narrator (Teri Hatcher, voice chilling and soft as the Other Mother):
“Sometimes, the world isn’t what it seems. Sometimes, it’s something much darker… waiting to be discovered.”

Cue an ominous, low rumble of music.

Cut to:
Coraline Jones walking through the dusty, dimly lit halls of the house, the wallpaper peeling and the furniture worn. She’s bored, restless, and a little lonely. The distant sound of her parents’ voices is muffled, and the camera lingers on her face, which is full of curiosity and longing.

Coraline (Dakota Fanning, voice-over):
“I thought this place would be different. But it’s just… empty. Everything feels wrong here.”

She stumbles upon an old, mysterious door that leads nowhere, bricked up on the other side. But one night, the door is open.

Cut to:
A whirling, fantastical world on the other side of the door — vibrant, colorful, and strange, with an unsettlingly perfect version of Coraline’s house. The Other World.

Coraline (whispering in awe):
“It’s perfect… too perfect.”

Enter the Other Mother (Teri Hatcher):
The Other Mother, with her glowing button eyes, appears behind her in the Other World, a twisted smile on her face. She seems warm at first, her voice soft and welcoming.

Other Mother (Teri Hatcher, seductively):
“Welcome, Coraline. I’ve been waiting for you. In this world, you can have everything you’ve ever wanted.”

But as the trailer unfolds, the tone shifts. The colors of the Other World start to feel suffocating, the perfection an illusion hiding the darkness beneath. A series of eerie, unsettling moments flash across the screen:

  • The Other Father — a version of Coraline’s father who seems off, too stiff, too controlled.
  • Coraline finding herself trapped, as the Other Mother’s true nature becomes clear: a malevolent being who wants to keep Coraline in this world forever.
  • The Other World’s inhabitants, twisted versions of Coraline’s friends and family, each wearing button eyes, their faces eerily blank.

Coraline (frightened):
“This isn’t real! You’re not my mother!”

Other Mother (with a dark chuckle):
“You’ll stay here. I can make you love it… if you’ll just let me.”

The camera cuts to a frantic sequence of action as Coraline runs through the Other World, dodging threats and trying to escape the Other Mother’s grasp. She meets Wybie (played by a new character actor, possibly someone like Finn Wolfhard), a mysterious boy who helps her understand the dark truth of the Other World.

Wybie (shouting):
“You have to get out of there! She’s using you!”

The music intensifies as we see Coraline battling her fears:

  • The Other Mother’s mask cracking, revealing her true, horrifying form — a monstrous, spider-like creature with button eyes.
  • Coraline racing through the forest, the trees coming alive, branches reaching out to grab her.
  • A final showdown between Coraline and the Other Mother in the heart of the Other World, where the two clash in a life-or-death struggle.

Coraline (desperate, standing tall):
“I will never be your doll.”

The final moments of the trailer build to a high-stakes escape:

  • Coraline running toward the door, with the Other Mother chasing her through a shifting, ever-changing landscape.
  • The door slamming shut just as the Other Mother reaches out, her hand disappearing through the crack.

Text on screen: “Coraline – Live Action. Coming Soon, 2026.”

The trailer closes with a creeping, unsettling image of the button eyes, followed by Coraline’s face, determined yet frightened, as the world around her begins to collapse.

Coraline (final voice-over, breathless but resolute):
“No one can save me but myself. I have to be brave. I have to get back… before she takes everything.”
