The Quiet Bridge

It was just a toy.

Soft. Small. Unremarkable.

But somehow, in that moment, it became something more.

The baby macaques didn’t understand what it represented. They didn’t think in symbols or meanings.

But they understood feeling.

And that was enough.

One macaque pushed the toy forward.

Another watched it carefully.

A third stayed still, unsure what to do.

The toy rested between them.

Not belonging to anyone.

Not demanding anything.

Just… there.

And that’s what made it important.

It created space.

A neutral ground.

Something to approach without fear.

Slowly, one of them reached toward it.

Not toward another macaque.

Just the toy.

And that was the beginning.

Because sometimes, connection doesn’t start directly.

Sometimes, it starts through something small.

Something shared.

Something that allows two uncertain beings to move closer…

without feeling overwhelmed.
