They’ve been best friends for years.

They’ve been best friends for years.
He works at UPS in Homewood, Alabama. She works at The Pants Store in Mountain Brook and Gigi’s in Cahaba Heights. Different paths, different places — but their hearts have always stayed connected.
And just two days ago, on World Down Syndrome Day, they were together again.
Exactly where they’ve always chosen to be: side by side.
This isn’t a day to talk about limitations…
It’s a day to celebrate possibilities.
People with Down syndrome aren’t just “special” —
They are sons and daughters, siblings, classmates, coworkers…
People who live, contribute, and love in their own beautiful ways.
Jake and Grace are living proof of that.
It’s not about what they can’t do…
It’s about everything they’ve already done.
Just a few years ago, they stood on the grounds of Vestavia Hills High School —
Jake graduated in 2018, proud to wear the Rebels football jersey.
Grace graduated in 2020, shining bright as a cheerleader in the stands.
Then life moved forward:
Jake attended LIFE College at Clemson University.
Grace joined the Eagles program at Auburn.
They graduated.
They found jobs.
They built their lives — step by step, with strength and purpose.
Two days ago, at Brocks Gap, they reunited with many other incredible friends —
A picnic hosted by Down Syndrome Alabama.
Laughter, colors, and bright, mismatched socks — the symbol of the day — filled the air.
Jake and Grace may be a little different…
But deep down, they’re more like us than we often realize.
This morning, they went back to work.
They’ll work hard.
They’ll help customers.
They’ll make someone’s day a little better.
They don’t judge.
They simply love.
And most importantly…
Tomorrow, they’ll do it all over again.
