The list of fallen figures is devastating: businessman Álex Saab was arrested in a joint operation with the FBI, Raúl Gorrín (owner of Globovisión) was detained, and shipping magnate Wilmer Ruperti fell shortly after. Tareck El Aissami, former oil czar, remains imprisoned. Vladimir Padrino López, Defense Minister for over a decade, was dismissed along with the entire military high command.

According to international reports, the detentions are carried out without public explanation, but with the approval and even at the urging of the White House. Washington demanded that Rodríguez authorize investigations against nine figures, including Maduro’s son Nicolás Maduro Guerra and stepson Walter Gavidia Flores.

Meanwhile, the intelligence apparatus remains intact. The SEBIN continues operating with over 7,000 facial recognition cameras supplied by Chinese companies. But now those being spied on are different: Maduro’s own allies, under permanent surveillance.
