Kentucky Woman Arrested for Tattooing Her 22-Month-Old Toddler

Brooke McDaniel charged with first-degree criminal abuse after allegedly giving her young son a tattoo at home
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky mother has been arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child after authorities say she gave her 22-month-old son a tattoo.
Brooke McDaniel was booked into the Christian County Jail following the disturbing incident. Police in Hopkinsville reported that McDaniel offered conflicting explanations, first claiming the toddler “got in the way” while she was tattooing herself, and later telling officers that the child “wanted it.”
The boy was left with a small dot-style tattoo on his arm. Authorities were alerted to the injury after a relative reported it. The child has since been placed in protective custody by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services while the investigation continues.
Kentucky law strictly prohibits tattooing anyone under the age of 18, even with parental consent. While violations by licensed practitioners are typically misdemeanors, tattooing a child under the age of 4 is elevated to a felony charge of child abuse, which can carry up to 10 years in prison.
This case has drawn significant attention due to the extreme young age of the victim and the clear violation of state child protection laws.
