Paige Adams, Former Cold Springs High School Girls Basketball Coach, Seeks Dismissal of Sex Charges

Paige Parker Adams, 35, the former head girls’ basketball coach and teacher at Cold Springs High School in Cullman County, Alabama, was arrested in April 2026 on multiple charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with a student.
Charges:
- 1 count of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student (felony)
- 1 count of a school employee having sexual contact with a student under age 19 (felony)
- 30 counts of a school employee distributing obscene material to a student (misdemeanors)
Adams resigned abruptly in late March 2026 after leading the team to a strong season. She has pleaded not guilty.
The “Stunning Reason” for Dismissal Motion:
Adams’ attorneys recently filed a motion to dismiss all 32 charges. The key arguments are:
- The alleged victim was 18 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.
- The student attended a different high school within the Cullman County school system (not Cold Springs).
- Adams was never in a position of educational or extracurricular authority over the student.
Her legal team contends that Alabama’s specific “school employee” statutes were designed to protect students from exploitation by those who hold direct authority over them at the same school. Applying the laws in this case, they argue, exceeds the state’s legitimate interest and violates due process.
A hearing on the motion to dismiss is scheduled for August 12, 2026.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the contrast between Adams’ recent success as a championship-contending coach and the serious nature of the allegations. The outcome of the dismissal motion could hinge on how strictly the court interprets the “position of authority” requirement in the statutes.
This remains an active legal matter.
