19-Year-Old Woman Killed by Tricycle Driver in Philippines Over Alleged Fare Dispute

ALCOY, Philippines — A 19-year-old woman has been found dead in Alcoy, Cebu, after authorities say she was killed by a tricycle driver during an argument over a P150 fare.

Jeani Pryll Belardo was reported missing by her foreign partner before her body was discovered in a grassy area on Wednesday. Police from Mabalacat tracked her missing tablet using GPS, which led them to the neighboring town of Dalaguete, where the device had reportedly been sold.

Authorities arrested 42-year-old tricycle driver Anthony Baldogo in connection with the killing. Police said Baldogo confessed to the crime, claiming the victim did not immediately pay the fare.

The suspect allegedly used a knife in the attack. Authorities recovered the weapon after Baldogo led them to its hiding place. He is currently in police custody, and a murder case is being prepared against him.

Baldogo has a prior criminal record involving illegal drugs and harassment, according to police.

The victim’s body has been sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and to check whether she was sexually assaulted.

The case has drawn attention locally as another tragic example of violence involving public transport workers in the Philippines. Investigations are ongoing.
