Former WGN Employee Files $10 Million Claim Against Federal Government After ICE Detention
Debbie Brockman, a former producer at WGN-TV in Chicago, has filed a $10 million claim against the U.S. government following her detention by federal agents last October during “Operation Midway Blitz” in Lincoln Square.
Brockman alleges she was violently tackled, thrown to the ground, and subjected to excessive force by agents. Her attorney claims she suffered assault and battery, false arrest, false imprisonment, and severe emotional distress. She was detained for several hours but released without any charges.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Brockman threw objects at an ICE agent’s vehicle during the incident, leading to her arrest for assault on a federal officer. Brockman and her legal team dispute this account.
The incident, which was captured on bystander video, has sparked significant public discussion about immigration enforcement tactics and interactions between citizens and federal agents.
This is an administrative claim under the Federal Tort Claims Act — a required step before potentially filing a formal lawsuit.
The case is still developing.
