California Woman Pleads Guilty to Spying on Ex-Husband’s Fiancée via Ring Cameras

SAN DIEGO, California — A woman has admitted to secretly accessing and livestreaming footage from her ex-husband’s home security cameras, including private moments involving his new fiancée.
Rayna Bell pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of eavesdropping using an electronic device. According to reports, she allegedly spied on more than 700 hours of footage from the Ring cameras installed in her ex’s home.
The victim described the profound violation of privacy:
“We tried so hard to try to restore the peace, the security, the privacy. Once you are robbed of that, it’s almost impossible to try to restore that in your home.”
The case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of home security technology in domestic disputes and post-divorce conflicts. Ring cameras, while useful for safety, can be exploited if login credentials are shared or improperly accessed.
Bell’s actions reportedly included watching the new fiancée in vulnerable moments, such as when undressed. This “creepiest act imaginable,” as described by some outlets, has drawn widespread condemnation.
The ex-husband and his fiancée expressed relief that the situation has been addressed legally, though they noted the lasting impact on their sense of security in their own home.
Cases like this underscore the importance of changing passwords, removing shared access, and monitoring smart home devices after relationship changes.
