Two Texas Women Charged After Allegedly Leaving Children Alone in Filthy Apartment, Resulting in Baby Nearly Beaten to Death

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Two women have been charged after authorities say they left a 2-month-old baby and two young children locked in a filthy apartment while they went out to drink and do drugs.
Sidney Whitt and Jacqulun Morales allegedly confined the infant in a bedroom of a fly-infested apartment along with children ages 6 and 4. While the women were gone, the older children reportedly abused the baby — tossing it around and stomping on its head, causing a brain bleed and seizures.
The baby was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The horrific abuse was discovered after the infant began having seizures.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office says the apartment was in deplorable condition, highlighting serious concerns about child endangerment and neglect.
Both women face multiple charges related to the incident. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to protect the children involved.
This disturbing case has shocked the local community and raised questions about child welfare oversight. The infant is receiving medical care, and the other children have been removed from the situation.
