Dramatic NYPD Bodycam Video Captures Heroic Rescue After Seaplane Hard-Lands in East River

Newly released body-worn camera footage from NYPD Harbor Unit officers shows the tense, rapid rescue of all passengers aboard a seaplane that made an emergency hard landing in New York City’s East River on Sunday afternoon.

The single-engine Kodiak 100, carrying eight passengers and crew returning from the Hamptons, touched down roughly in the water near the Manhattan waterfront around 12:04 p.m. The plane remained upright but partially submerged as choppy waters surrounded it.

Officers raced to the scene in a patrol boat, arriving within about 90 seconds of the incident. Video captures responders maneuvering alongside the aircraft, securing a line, and helping occupants step carefully from the plane’s pontoon onto the safety of the police vessel. “No missing, no injuries!” an officer is heard confirming with clear relief.

Among those rescued were 76-year-old Ada Todd and her 16-year-old granddaughter Khloe, who had been celebrating a birthday trip. Khloe, who filmed harrowing interior video as the plane descended, later praised the NYPD’s swift action. “They just saved our lives,” she told The Post. “I’ll forever be grateful.” A photo shared by Khloe shows her and her grandmother smiling aboard the plane just minutes before the landing.

FDNY and other first responders also assisted, with the aircraft eventually towed to shore. No serious injuries were reported, though two people declined medical treatment at the scene.

The dramatic rescue highlights the effectiveness of New York’s harbor patrols in one of the city’s busiest waterways. Investigations into the cause of the emergency landing are ongoing.
