Ohio — The mother at the center of a shocking “House of Horrors” case in Ohio, where 16 children were rescued from deplorable conditions, was previously charged with truancy after six of her kids failed to attend school, according to court documents.

Elizabeth Siders and her husband Gary Siders Jr. faced truancy charges in October 2021 for not sending six children — aged 7 to 13 at the time — to Addaville Elementary School in Gallipolis. The school is just a five-minute drive from their former residence.

The latest case has drawn widespread attention after authorities discovered the children living in a feces-filled home described as nearly feral. Photos from the property show extreme neglect, with boarded-up sections and piles of trash visible outside the home.

This prior truancy case adds another layer to the ongoing investigation into the family’s circumstances and raises questions about previous interventions by child welfare services.

The disturbing discovery has shocked the local community and prompted calls for stronger oversight of at-risk families.
