Released 911 Call Marks Tragic Turning Point in Javeayah Harris Investigation

Authorities in Aiken County, South Carolina, have released the 911 call made by Michilae Herring on June 30, 2026, when she reported her 4-year-old daughter, Javeayah Harris, missing.

During the call, Herring told the dispatcher that Javeayah had been playing outside their home on Hillsborough Street while she was preparing dinner. She described searching nearby wooded areas and expressed concern that someone in the neighborhood might have taken the child.

The report prompted a large-scale search involving law enforcement and emergency responders, with the community hoping the young girl would be found safely.

As the investigation progressed, however, authorities said the evidence led them in a very different direction. According to arrest warrants, investigators allege that both Michilae Herring and Johmarea Harris confessed to homicide by child abuse. Authorities further allege that Javeayah had died weeks before she was reported missing and that her body had been disposed of elsewhere.

Both parents now face serious criminal charges. In addition to homicide by child abuse allegations, Herring has also been charged with filing a false police report. The allegations against both defendants have not yet been proven in court.

Investigators continue searching for Javeayah’s remains in areas including Fairfield County while forensic experts work to gather additional evidence. Authorities have said the investigation remains active, and more information may be released as the case proceeds.

The case has deeply affected the Aiken County community and has renewed calls for stronger child protection measures. Lawmakers have also begun discussing proposed reforms, including legislation informally referred to as “Javeayah’s Law,” aimed at strengthening child welfare safeguards and responses to suspected abuse.
