Tens of thousands of you helped say goodbye to him. Today was supposed to be teenage cancer warrior Will Roberts’ first day of high school. nt

Instead, his mom dropped his little sister off for her first day of 7th grade and then drove here to see her high schooler.
Brittney Roberts shared this photo from Will’s grave today, writing about the morning she should have had with both of her children.

“I should have been taking pictures of BOTH of my kids this morning. Will would have been complaining, Charlie would have been laughing, and I would have been hollering for everybody to hurry up.”
Instead, Charlie started 7th grade without her big brother beside her.
After dropping her daughter off, Brittney went to visit the son who should have been starting high school.

“That one hurts,” she wrote.
“Charlie is still growing up and having all these firsts without the big brother who was supposed to be growing up right beside her.”
So many of you followed Will’s cancer battle, prayed for him and surrounded this family with love when they had to say goodbye.

Today is another reminder that grief doesn’t end with a funeral. It shows up again on first days, birthdays, holidays and ordinary mornings that were supposed to look completely different.
