Newly circulated photographs and footage connected to the July 4 trip to Horn Island are raising fresh questions about the final hours of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, whose body was found near the Mississippi barrier island two days after he disappeared.

The images appear to show people connected to the trip at different points, including a daytime beach scene and nighttime activity near the shoreline. But the crucial question is whether these images can be authenticated, dated and placed accurately within Nolan’s final timeline.

Authorities have specifically asked the public for original, unedited photos and videos from Horn Island on July 4, particularly material showing Nolan, alleged altercations or unusual activity. Investigators said original media could contain details important to the ongoing investigation.

The nighttime image in the circulating graphic is attracting particular attention.

It appears to show several people gathered near the shoreline after dark.

If the original footage can be obtained and authenticated, investigators could potentially determine when it was recorded, where it was recorded and who was present.

That could matter because one of the major unresolved issues in the case is the timeline between Nolan’s last confirmed sighting and the departure of the boat from Horn Island.

A report from the United Cajun Navy identified a critical gap between a reported last sighting around 3 p.m. and the boat’s departure around 4:31 p.m., although the report itself cautioned that its contents were not verified law-enforcement findings.
