MARGATE, FLORIDA — A Florida family is mourning an unimaginable loss after a mother and her 2-year-old daughter were killed by lightning while arriving at a relative’s home during a Sunday afternoon storm.

Kenya Glasgow, 31, and her daughter Kennedi were struck at about 2:30 p.m. on August 23 in Margate, according to authorities. Both were rushed to separate hospitals but died shortly after arriving.

The Family Was Trying to Beat the Storm
Kenya, her husband Kameron and their two young daughters had just arrived at Kameron’s aunt’s home for a family dinner.

As rain began intensifying, the family decided to get the children inside.

Then lightning struck.

Kameron said he felt electricity from the strike and realized something terrible had happened when he turned around.

He said he saw his wife and daughter lying lifeless on the ground.

The surviving twin, Kensli, was still with the family.

A Neighbor Heard a Massive Strike
Resident Prince Moody, who lives across the street, said he heard what he described as an exceptionally loud lightning strike.

He also saw an orange glow through his window.

After realizing someone had been hit, Moody rushed outside and found the mother and child on the ground.

He called 911 and attempted to help until emergency crews arrived.

Margate police officers and fire-rescue personnel quickly began emergency treatment, including CPR.

Kenya was transported to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach.

Kennedi was taken with a police escort to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
