NEW YORK CITY — Erin Piacenti had only just returned to her career after five months at home with her newborn daughter.

On Monday, August 31, the 32-year-old Bank of America executive was making her way through Times Square when a seemingly random attack changed her family’s life forever.

Piacenti was fatally stabbed in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan, just days after sharing photos celebrating her young family.

Her death has now left behind a husband, a five-month-old daughter and a professional community struggling to understand how an ordinary afternoon could turn into tragedy.

💔 SHE HAD ONLY RECENTLY RETURNED TO WORK
Piacenti, who lived in Chester, New Jersey, was in her first week back at Bank of America after taking five months of maternity leave.

During that time, she had been caring for her newborn daughter, Madison, with her husband, Frank.

Just four days before the fatal attack, Piacenti had shared a photo of herself with her husband and baby. She had also posted about Madison’s recent baptism and family travels.

Those photographs now provide a painful glimpse into the life she had been building before it was suddenly cut short.

🚨 THE ATTACK LASTED ONLY SECONDS
According to the NYPD, the violence began shortly after 4:20 p.m. near West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue.

Police say Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens, approached a 68-year-old man who had just left a subway station and was waiting to cross the street with his wife.

Witnesses told investigators that Cisneros pulled two large knives from a red Target bag and attacked him.

The man was stabbed in the abdomen but survived.

Cisneros then moved north along Seventh Avenue, where police say she encountered Piacenti.

The two attacks happened only about 20 seconds apart, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Piacenti was stabbed near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue.

Emergency medical personnel rushed her to Bellevue Hospital, but she died from her injuries.

She was only 32.

Authorities have described the attack as random and unprovoked, and investigators have not indicated that Piacenti knew her attacker or had been specifically targeted.

After the stabbings, officers confronted Cisneros.

Police say she continued holding both knives and refused repeated commands to put them down.

The standoff lasted several minutes.

Officers first deployed Tasers, but they failed to stop her. Police said Cisneros then moved toward officers while still armed, prompting two officers to fire their weapons.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital and later pronounced dead.
