Ohio father of two found dead in CVS trash compactor after wife traces his phone signal

A father of two was found dead inside a trash compactor at a CVS pharmacy after his concerned wife used cellphone tracking to help police locate him, authorities said.

Andrew Strand, 34, had been performing contract work at the CVS store in Shaker Heights, Ohio, last Wednesday. When he failed to call his wife, Jaymie — whom he had been married to for seven years — to say he was heading home, she became alarmed. She contacted police and used a phone location tool to trace his whereabouts, which led her to the drugstore, according to CBS affiliate WOIO-TV.

After searching the store, Shaker Heights police made the grim discovery of Strand’s body inside a trash compactor behind the building.

“Andy’s death was sudden and completely unexpected, leaving his family devastated,” friends wrote on a GoFundMe page created in his memory. “His wife and children were the center of his world, and he loved them deeply.”

Friends described Strand as a devoted father to two young children and a kind-hearted man who was always willing to help others. His work as a mechanic reportedly inspired his son’s growing interest in cars.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends during this very difficult time,” Shaker Heights Police Commander John Cole said in a statement.

A spokesperson for CVS told WOIO-TV that the company is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the death of a contractor outside the store on Chagrin Boulevard.

The GoFundMe campaign set a goal of $30,000, and more than $19,000 has already been raised to support Strand’s family.
