Fiery Tesla crash triggers hazmat response, sending two people to the hospital

A white Tesla erupted into a massive blaze Monday morning following a crash in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, sending two people to the hospital.

The Los Angeles Fire Department launched a hazardous materials response due to the dangers posed by the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery. The collision occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on West Nordhoff Street near Mason Avenue. Video from the scene showed the electric car fully engulfed in flames as debris, including a tire, was scattered across the roadway and onto the sidewalk.

Witness footage also showed a woman lying on the ground as bystanders rushed to assist her before emergency crews arrived.

Authorities said the fire broke out after a two-vehicle crash. Lithium-ion batteries can release hazardous chemicals and toxic fumes when ignited, increasing the risks for both victims and first responders.
