Private Messages Between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively Enter Court Records

Private text messages exchanged between Taylor Swift and her close friend Blake Lively during the production of It Ends with Us have become part of official court filings and have been partially disclosed to the public.
According to the latest updates in the lawsuit between Lively and her co-star/director Justin Baldoni, the court unsealed a set of private messages between Lively and Swift, making them public legal documents. The texts were sent during an intense dispute in late 2024 and have been cited by Baldoni’s legal team to illustrate the nature of the relationship and interactions between the two artists.

Excerpts from the messages show Lively using harsh language to describe Baldoni, reportedly referring to him as a “doofus director” and a “clown” while discussing disagreements over the script and questioning his handling of their professional relationship. In one message, Swift replied, “I would do anything for you,” signaling strong support for her friend.
Another section of the filings alleges that Swift used insulting language about Baldoni in her replies, which the 42-year-old director’s legal team claims is evidence that Lively and Swift coordinated efforts to undermine him and sway public opinion. Lively’s attorneys counter that the messages do not demonstrate Swift’s involvement in the film’s production or creative decisions, arguing they were merely private conversations between friends with no legal or professional intent.
At present, neither Lively nor Swift has commented publicly on the released messages. Representatives for the “Bad Blood” singer have repeatedly stated that Swift had no role in any artistic, creative, or production decisions related to It Ends with Us. Baldoni, through his attorneys, continues to reference the messages as part of a broader argument that the dispute escalated beyond internal production issues into a complex media battle affecting his reputation and career.

Previously, in May 2025, Baldoni filed a motion seeking to subpoena Swift as a witness, alleging that Lively leveraged her close friendship with the 36-year-old superstar to pressure him into accepting script changes. Swift’s legal team promptly denied the claim, emphasizing that she was not involved in casting or production and that her decision to allow the use of her song My Tears Ricochet was entirely separate from the dispute.
Baldoni later withdrew the subpoena request after the court objected to what it viewed as a potential abuse of procedure, but allowed his attorneys to obtain and review relevant messages between Lively and Swift in connection with the case.
The developments stem from Lively’s initial legal complaint filed in December 2024, when she submitted an 80-page filing accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment on the It Ends with Us set and of creating a hostile work environment that damaged her reputation. Baldoni has denied all allegations and filed counterclaims seeking up to $400 million in damages, accusing Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their agency of orchestrating a smear campaign through the media. While part of his counterclaim was dismissed by the court in June 2025, the case remains ongoing, with other claims proceeding toward a trial currently expected to take place in May.
