Spice Girls’ 30th Anniversary Reunion Plans Reportedly Scrapped

The long-anticipated reunion project celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls now appears unlikely to reach fans.

According to Daily Mail, the special reunion plans marking three decades since the group’s formation have been officially shelved, as lingering tensions among the members remain unresolved. Originally, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel B, Mel C, and Geri Halliwell-Horner were expected to collaborate on a Netflix-exclusive TV drama chronicling the band’s journey since their 1996 debut. That plan has now been put on indefinite hold.

The Sun reports that the project had been in development for several years but stalled due to disagreements—particularly between Mel B (Scary Spice) and Geri Halliwell-Horner (Ginger Spice). Geri is said to have remained hesitant about signing on amid a strained relationship with Mel B.

In 2019, Mel B claimed on a television program that she and Geri had shared a “one-time fling” during the band’s heyday—an allegation Geri has consistently denied. Since then, relations between the two have reportedly deteriorated, repeatedly derailing group projects.

A source said: “Fans will be deeply disappointed. The project was carefully planned, but producers wanted full agreement from all five members. Without that, Netflix couldn’t give it the green light.”

Last month, Mel B was absent from Emma Bunton’s 50th birthday celebration, where the other four members reunited. Earlier, she also missed a gathering at Victoria Beckham’s home, during which the group sang their hit Viva Forever. Mel B’s absence was attributed to her honeymoon in Mauritius with her new husband Rory McPhee.

Still, Victoria Beckham delighted fans by sharing an Instagram video of herself singing with the group for the first time in years. Her son Cruz Beckham even accompanied them on guitar.

The now-shelved series was being developed by producer Suzanne Mackie, best known for The Crown, alongside writer Jack Rooke, a BAFTA winner for Big Boys. The show was set to chart the band’s rise from the release of their debut single Wannabe to global superstardom. A separate documentary about the group’s legacy was also reportedly in the works at Netflix, though it has yet to be officially confirmed.

While Victoria Beckham has repeatedly said she wants to focus on her fashion empire, Mel C continues to express hope for future performances together. Speaking on Good Morning America, she said: “We’re incredibly proud of our legacy. New generations still love the Spice Girls, so I always hope we’ll stand on stage together again one day.”

For now, however, with internal conflicts unresolved, a full five-member reunion remains distant. Even so, fans continue to hope that the “five powerful girls” will one day rediscover common ground—just as they once united the world with the spirit of “Girl Power” over the past three decades.
