The new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, has stormed the North American box office, earning USD 11 million on its opening day and is projected to reach USD 80 million globally after the holiday period, securing the No.1 spot in the U.S. market.
Strong opening numbers and wide release
Adapted from the classic Gothic novel by Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights made an impressive debut, overtaking rival releases such as GOAT and Crime 101.
On its opening Friday, the film grossed USD 11 million across 3,682 theaters in North America. According to Variety, the movie is expected to collect around USD 40 million domestically over the holiday weekend. If international markets add a similar USD 40 million, the film will reach a solid USD 80 million worldwide opening—effectively matching its reported production budget of USD 80 million.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi revive a timeless romance
Set in the 19th century, the film revisits the haunting, forbidden love story between Cathy, a woman from the upper class, and Heathcliff, a brooding outsider rejected by society. The iconic roles are portrayed by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, whose on-screen chemistry has fueled much of the film’s early buzz.

The story centers on Heathcliff’s dramatic return after years away, driven by a desire for revenge and an unresolved passion for Cathy. Alongside the two leads, the film features a strong supporting cast including Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, Shazad Latif, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell, adding depth and range to this ambitious literary adaptation.
