Why ‘very disturbing images’ forced Chloe Kim to shut down DMs after Winter Olympics

Chloe Kim added another medal to her Olympic resume, but she removed one thing from her social media.

The three-time medalist in the halfpipe revealed Friday that she had to turn off direct messages from her Instagram account over “very disturbing images” she had been receiving.

“Hello hello! Happy Friday! I unfortunately had to turn off my DMs due to people taking things too far,” Kim wrote on her story.

“I’ve seen too many fake and very disturbing images/videos and I need to protect myself. Hopefully with some time we’ll be back! I really do enjoy connecting with you all! Much love 💖💖”

She went on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday to clarify that the couple had not actually decided to get married.

“Don’t fall for it, guys!” Kim said of the image that was likely made through AI.

Kim added that there were some obvious clues to see that the image was fabricated.

“[Garrett is] wearing sunglasses,” she said. “I don’t want my man to propose to me with sunglasses on.”

Kim had an eventful last two months, as she incurred a scary fall and dislocated her shoulder while training in Switzerland in early January.

In spite of all that, she made Team USA’s Olympic snowboarding roster.
