Milo the parrot was adorable, brilliant, and slightly dangerous in one very specific way: he repeated everything.

At first, his talent seemed charming. He would greet guests with a cheerful “hello,” whistle along with the kettle, and occasionally say his own name in a tone that made everyone laugh. A few days later, the mother was on a video call with relatives when Milo began making the microwave beep from the kitchen. Then he did the dishwasher sound. Then, with frightening accuracy, he copied the family dog’s bark. The dog came running into the room, confused and offended, while the relatives on the call laughed so hard they could barely speak.

But Milo saved his greatest performance for a quiet Sunday afternoon.

The house was calm. One family member was napping on the couch. Another was reading. Then, out of nowhere, Milo shouted in a perfectly clear voice, “Who did this?”

Everyone jumped.

No one had spoken. Nothing had happened. The room froze for half a second before Milo followed it with a dramatic cough and a laugh he had clearly stolen from one of the humans. It was chaos after that. The dog started barking. The person on the couch woke up in panic. The reader dropped their book.

And Milo? Milo looked completely pleased with himself.

Living with a smart animal means accepting that your home is no longer entirely under your control. Every sound, phrase, and strange habit becomes potential material. And while that may lead to confusion, it also creates the kind of moments no one forgets.
