The Hobbit 4: The Shadow of Erebor (2026) – Trailer
The camera opens to a darkened sky, the familiar haunting notes of Howard Shore’s score filling the air as mist rolls over the ancient, stone-tipped mountains of Erebor.
Narrator (Ian McKellen as Gandalf):
“Long ago, the shadows of Erebor were banished… But darkness does not sleep forever. It only waits for the right moment to rise again.”
The camera slowly pans across the once-glorious halls of Erebor, now quiet and empty. The majestic kingdom of the dwarves, rebuilt in all its glory, stands at the heart of the Lonely Mountain. But there is an ominous weight in the air, something unseen but felt by all who linger too long beneath the mountain’s shadow.
Cut to Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) in the Shire, a peaceful home shrouded in sunlight. He’s reading a letter from an old friend. A map with a cryptic symbol marks the shadowed mountain.
Bilbo (narrating):
“I thought my adventures were behind me. But the winds of Middle-earth do not always blow where you expect. What’s left of the past? And what are we willing to lose to face the darkness that never truly left?”
Cut to Erebor.
The camera reveals dark figures moving beneath the mountain’s gates. The peaceful dwarven city now faces a rising threat—a shadow from deep within the earth, something ancient and forgotten. The screen flickers briefly, revealing the eyes of a creature, its breath echoing through the halls.
Gandalf (Ian McKellen):
“The Shadow of Erebor is no mere rumor. It is a force that has waited for centuries, and it now stirs beneath the very stone we once called home.”
The trailer shifts into a series of breathtaking action shots:
- Dwarves and elves fighting together against hordes of monstrous creatures, their swords and axes flashing in the dim light of the caves.
- Thorin Oakenshield’s (Richard Armitage) voice echoing in Bilbo’s mind: “We fought the dragon, but not all its treasures were claimed.”
- Bilbo, now older and wiser, standing tall beside Gandalf, a long-forgotten sword in his hand, ready to face the unknown.
- A flash of the ring, a glint of green, and the iconic voice of Gollum (Andy Serkis) whispering: “You can’t hide from the past, Baggins…”
Bilbo (Martin Freeman):
“There are places in Middle-earth where even the bravest fear to tread. Erebor is one of them. But the Shadow is real, and it has awoken… and we must face it, or it will consume everything.”
A deep rumbling sound erupts as the camera shakes. The screen flashes with scenes of lava rising from beneath the earth, the mountains cracking, and ancient gates creaking open.
Gandalf (Ian McKellen, voice trembling):
“The shadow seeks not just power… it seeks revenge. And we must stop it—before it devours all that we hold dear.”
Cut to a final, breathtaking image:
Bilbo, Gandalf, and a small group of dwarves stand at the entrance of Erebor, their faces resolute. Beyond them, the fiery glow of the shadow grows, casting an unearthly light over the mountain.
Narrator (Ian McKellen):
“The greatest threat Middle-earth has ever known… has returned. And this time, no one is safe.”
Text on screen: “The Hobbit 4: The Shadow of Erebor — Coming Soon, 2026.”
The trailer ends with the sound of a mighty roar reverberating from deep within Erebor, and the image of a dark, imposing figure stepping from the shadows.
Bilbo (final line, voice-over):
“Sometimes, the darkest shadows are those we create ourselves.”
