Giorgia Meloni, the most pro-Israel leader in all of Europe, just suspended the defense agreement with Israel. She announced it today from Verona: “In light of the current situation, the government has decided to suspend the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel.”

The agreement had existed since 2003, was automatically renewed every 5 years, and covered everything: military equipment exchange, personnel training, research, technological development and defense industrial cooperation. All suspended. Italy will no longer cooperate militarily with Israel.

What triggered the break? Israel fired at a convoy of ITALIAN UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. Soldiers under the Italian flag serving with UNIFIL. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani erupted. Italians took to the streets protesting against Israel. And Meloni, already pressured by her referendum defeat and her crumbling alliance with Trump, had no choice but to act.
