TRUMP TRIPS OVER HIMSELF IN LAS VEGAS: SAYS “A YEAR AGO THE WORLD WAS LAUGHING AT THE US” AND FORGETS HE WAS ALREADY PRESIDENT
“A year ago, our country was an embarrassment. All over the world, they laughed at us”, declared Donald Trump this Thursday, April 16, during a tax cuts roundtable held in Las Vegas alongside his Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent.

The detail no one missed is crushing. In April 2025, Trump had already been in the White House for three months during his second term, after taking office on January 20 of that same year. In other words, he was describing as “embarrassing” a country he was already governing.

The president insisted on his narrative that the United States went from being a global laughing stock to regaining international respect thanks to his leadership. His supporters interpret it as a sign of firmness and assertiveness that allegedly restored confidence in the country.
Critics recalled Trump’s own words in January in Iowa, when he said “a year ago we were a dead country” under Biden, and contrasted them with the facts: the Republican president took office on January 20, 2025, which means “a year ago” in both statements points to his own administration.
